Sustainable SEO

Is the provision of effective SEO such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future SEO needs and will last for a much longer period then current SEO practices.

In fact, it is a new term I am trying to implement in the field of SEO and thus this article will be rotuinely edited and adapted as time goes by and as to create a basic and common definition to this new term. The sustainable keyword was adapted from the very hip Green methodology of sustainable energy production and thus make it more easy to grasp as a general term and not a field of SEO.

Also, it is worth to note that Sustainable Search Engine Optimization is not 'Ethical SEO' or 'White hat SEO' which are practices and not SEO methodology. Those relate to SEO principels that do not break any laws (Google's or others) as such and sepcificaly those who can positivily effect the ranking of pages. Those later SEO practices maybe referred to as sub sets of the Sustainable SEO methodology.

Generally speaking, Sustainable SEO refer to a more thorough and serious way of approaching SEO. In that, actions & practices taken are more likely to have a long term effect on SERP (Search Engine Results Pages), on one hand and are also more likely to retain this effect for a much longer period then common SEO practices, on the other hand. Also, it creates a methodology for SEO that will not negatively effect the SEO'd page or website (i.e. Pages that have been taken through a Search Engine Optimization process) as Black SEO'd page.

Sustainable SEO methodology

The methodology will adapt already common and proven practices and will not try to present new radical perceptions as it is only aimed at creating better practices. Basic practices are:

  • A preliminary & thorough research - As to determine key word phrases, competition and best strategy.
  • Strategy -
    • Long term accountability of practices.
    • No on-the-fly results (In relative to time-line determined by preliminary research) for SERP.
    • Step by step approach for creating constant & stable improvement in search result location (And \ or as to maintain best SERP over time).
    • Emphasis on SEO resources reusability.
  • Page & Website revamp -
    • Adaption of website structure, code & content for SEO needs.
    • Content adaption and periodic update.
  • Manageable & Reusable SEO resources -
    • Reusablitiy of SEO resources as a key element - As in the long term manageability of the SEO resources.
    • Especially editable article websites, Blogs & other Social media.
    • Try not to use mass footer links & 3rd-party websites backlinking as control over it is imposible
  • No Black Spam practices -
    • Spam links
    • Auto robot link submission
    • Voiloation of the various Search Engine guide lines (Google, Bing, Yahoo ext.)
  • Backlinking -
    • Ensure backlinking from related and relevant websites only
    • Maintain a steady (and if possible ever growing) rate of backlinking
  • Maintenance -
    • Periodic website code inspection
    • Regular content update
    • Quality Backlinking

Best practices for Sustainable SEO

As to ensure following the Sustainable SEO methodology and achieve long term stable results, certain practices need to be adapted. There are many free tools available on the net, and here are only a few recommended ones:
Validation of code is critical as to ensure search engine boots, spiders & robots, which scan SEO'd pages & website are able to scan them to their full SEO potential. Un valid code, broken tags ext. will compromise SEO (Search Engine Optimization) score.
CSS and its validation are important both for search engine boots, spiders & robots and for the human interface. Neglecting to ensure valid CSS can rate your SEO'd page or website lower and also effect users trying to use it (As the effect on Bounce Rate).
Page validation is critical in order to test, verify and if needed re-edit HTML tags as TITLE, KEYWORD & DESCRIPTION and also calculate KEYWORD DENSITY, IMAGES & LINKS tags (Such as ALT & TITLE), Header tags (As H1, H2 ext) and others. Please note that each html tag has its own effect, and even as minimal as it might be the sum total of all validated tags might heavily effect your page rank on SERP'ed pages.
